Annapolis Maryland Voted among the Best Places to Live
Colonial chic might best describe Annapolis. Cobblestone streets line one of the oldest, yet vibrant, cities in the country. Southern Living magazine voted Annapolis among the Top Five Most Beautiful Cities in 2018. A National Historic Landmark District, Annapolis is chocked-full of homes and businesses dating from the 1600s. Stroll down Main Street and discover its curious, timeless charm. A city alive and thriving, you can enjoy laid-back fun at one of its many unique shops. Or, try the fare at one of the locally-celebrated restaurants or pubs. And don’t forget to try some of the roasted grounds at one of the many coffee shops!
Voted among the 20 Best Places to Live on the Coast by Coastal Living magazine in 2018, Annapolis is a waterfront town that sits on the Chesapeake Bay at the mouth of the Severn River. You can enjoy fast and fun boat races on the river every week in season. And you can imbibe at a local pub while you watch! Or enjoy the U.S. Sailboat Show every year. Dubbed the largest of its kind, first class boats line the docks in downtown Annapolis. Touted as a nautical extravaganza, it’s a must see for all Annapolians.
Did I mention the fishing? Anglers can travel down the road a bit to Deale and fish for monster-sized fish, like striped bass. Charter a boat for the day. Or a half day, anyway! And then there's the theater troupes, hiking, parks and… you get the picture.
And you can’t talk about Annapolis without a nod to the prestigious U.S. Naval Academy, representing more than 150 years of maritime tradition. Who doesn’t have an image of hundreds of white caps flying into the air every year at the graduation ceremonies? And a fly over by our elite fighter jets – the Blue Angels, is a site everyone should see at least once.
Annapolis is the capital, and its county seat, for the state of Maryland. Located in Anne Arundel County, it's the oldest U.S. State Capital in continuous legislative use since 1772. Founded as St. Mary’s City in 1649, it has grown to be the 7th largest city in Maryland. Four of the men who signed the Declaration of Independence lived in Annapolis, and each of their homes is still in use today!
There’s much more to do in Annapolis, much more to know – but this should give you a few ideas about how living in Annapolis can enrich your life.
